Quang Ninh - Ngoc Vung Commune, Van Don District proactively burned the forest to create a runway, prevent the fire from spreading, and successfully extinguished the fire in the area.

At around 8:00 p.m. on October 13, the government and people of Ngoc Vung island commune, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province decided to burn part of the forest in Binh Minh village to create a firebreak, successfully extinguishing the fire.

The fire broke out at 5 p.m. the same day in a eucalyptus forest that had been damaged by Typhoon Yagi. The fire spread to the northeast.

Speaking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi - Vice Chairman of Ngoc Vung Commune People's Committee said: After analyzing the wind direction and terrain, the authorities decided to mobilize machinery and vehicles to create a firebreak. At around 8:00 p.m., we lit a fire in the southwest forest (the direction the fire was coming from) until around 0:00 a.m. on October 14, the two fires met and were completely extinguished at around 1:00 a.m.

The area of ​​forest burned is estimated at more than 1 hectare. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by authorities.

This is the second forest fire in Ngoc Vung commune in October. Previously, from October 9 to October 11, another forest fire burned down 10 hectares of forest, forcing the authorities to mobilize 300 people to participate in extinguishing the fire.

After Typhoon Yagi, Quang Ninh province had about 117,000 hectares of forest damaged at a rate of 30-100%. Fallen trees were dry and easily caught fire in the dry weather. Since Typhoon Yagi, there have been more than 10 forest fires in the area, mainly vegetation fires.
