According to information posted on social networks, a group of tourists went to eat at Thuy Chung restaurant, Bai Chay ward, Quang Ninh province and had to pay a bill of more than 50 million VND.
Some opinions believe that such a price is high, while others believe that the invoice is reasonable.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper at noon on June 22, Mr. Tran Trong - owner of Thuy Chung restaurant - said that on June 18, a group of more than 50 tourists ordered food at Thuy Chung restaurant.
The group of tourists sent representatives to choose dishes and supervise the weighing of high-value seafood, including lobsters.
Explaining why 12 lobsters are 12kg, meaning each lobster weighs about 1kg, Mr. Trong said that expensive seafood is selected and bought by restaurants. With lobsters, they are all the same size, from 1kg to 1.2kg/lobster.
With the listed price of 2,950,000 VND/1kg, 12kg has a total price of 35.4 million VND, accounting for the majority of the invoice amount.
In addition to lobster, the menu also includes some other expensive seafood, including: fragrant snails (720,000 VND/1kg), sea shrimp (780,000 VND/1kg), sea song fish (650,000 VND/kg).
According to Mr. Trong, the prices of all items are listed and all procedures are recorded by cameras.
When some members of the group commented on the bill after the meal, the restaurant also explained, but then a tourist posted the bill on social networks.
According to a representative of Bai Chay Ward People's Committee, as soon as they received the information, the ward established an inter-sectoral delegation to inspect immediately and determined that the restaurant fully listed the prices of all types of goods and had cameras recording all the processes of guidance, exchange, selection, weighing... between the restaurant and tourists.
Also according to a representative of Bai Chay Ward People's Committee, this is not the first time tourists have posted meal bills with quite high prices at restaurants in Bai Chay on social networks.
Through actual inspection as well as reviewing the camera, those invoices are all reasonable with the price as well as the process of agreement between the restaurant and diners.
However, posting such invoices also more or less affects the tourist image of the locality.
