On May 4, a representative of the leadership of Sam Son Ward People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, said that regarding the case of a meal bill of nearly 18 million VND at a restaurant in the area causing a stir on social networks, the locality has assigned the Ward Police to report the verification results and propose handling plans to the Provincial Police.
According to a report by Sam Son Ward Police, the image of meal bills spreading on social networks recently has negatively affected local tourism, when some sites use "dirty content" to engage and cause public misunderstanding.
In addition, interactions and sharing have contributed to distorting information, causing people and tourists to misunderstand the service costs at Sam Son.
Based on the verification results, Sam Son Ward Police proposed that the Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police direct the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department to coordinate in reviewing accounts and social networking sites to handle when there is sufficient basis, and at the same time request correction of false information.
Previously, at noon on May 1st, Sam Son Ward Police discovered on social networks images of a temporary bill for a meal in Sam Son priced at nearly 18 million VND, of which the red crab dish alone was more than 12 million VND.
This information and image was quickly widely shared on Facebook, accompanied by many speculative and accusatory comments, creating mixed public opinion.
Immediately after receiving the information, Sam Son Ward Police coordinated with the Market Management Team and related units to urgently verify.
The results showed that the invoice belonged to a restaurant on Ho Xuan Huong street. The group of guests included 24 people (13 adults, 11 children) from Hanoi.
Through working, functional forces determined that at about 6 pm on April 30, the group came to dinner at the restaurant. At about 9 pm on the same day, the group paid a total amount of 17,925,000,000 VND, received invoices and had no complaints.
After that, the bill was photographed, sent to the delegation's Zalo group and posted by a member on his personal Facebook.
This post, when spread, omitted important factors such as the number of customers, pre-orders and price agreements, leading to misunderstandings about meal costs.
According to Sam Son Ward Police, the person who posted it did not intend to reflect being "overcharged". The members of the group were all satisfied, even continuing to order food at the restaurant on May 1.
However, some websites have sensationalized and oriented public opinion with phrases such as "come on time again", "unique and strange bills", causing information to be distorted, negatively affecting the local tourism environment.
