On the afternoon of May 21, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc He and the working group inspected and surveyed the landslide situation in O Mon district, Thot Not district and Thoi Lai district.

In each locality, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc He directly inspected the actual situation, listening to the thoughts and aspirations of the people. At the same time, they expressed their deep sympathy for the losses of property and houses that the families are suffering.
In addition to visiting and encouraging, in Thoi Khanh A Hamlet, Tan Thanh Commune, Thoi Lai District, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City Nguyen Ngoc He presented 20 million VND to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dung (48 years old) to help the affected family reduce the burden during the difficult period.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He emphasized that the city is very interested and hopes that families will try to overcome difficulties, find ways to stabilize and rebuild their lives. In addition, it is recommended that localities pay attention to and regularly inspect points at high risk of landslides to promptly detect and help people limit damage to people and property.


The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City also requested that the City's Irrigation Department report and propose specific solutions for the City's Civil Defense, Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Command (PTDS - PCTT&TKCN) to submit to the City People's Committee for consideration and investment in emergency repair works.
Previously, at around 4:00 a.m. on May 20, in Thoi Khanh A Hamlet, Tan Thanh Commune, Thoi Lai District (a 2m rural traffic route along the O Mon River), a landslide occurred, subsiding 2.5m from the riverbank to the mainland; 6m deep. The landslide section is 35m long; of which, the entire landslide is 15m long, partly 20m long.


According to the report of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention - Disaster Prevention and Control of Thoi Lai district, the landslide did not cause any human casualties. However, a house of Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dung completely collapsed into the O Mon River. The house has a reinforced concrete floor structure, corrugated iron roof, solid walls, area of 4x20m. The total damage is estimated at about 150 million VND.
In Thot Not district, at 4:00 a.m. on May 16, a landslide occurred on Thom Rom canal (the right bank is about 100m from An Phu Loi bridge in the direction of Hau river) in Tan Phu area, Thuan Hung ward.
The landslide is about 25m long and 5m wide. Although it did not cause any human casualties, it collapsed 4 houses (3 houses and 1 rice paper kiln), at the same time, changing the embankment with a length of 43m (invested by the People's Committee of Thot Not District). The cause and value of the damage are being clarified.
Immediately after the landslide occurred, implementing the "four on-site" motto, the People's Committee of Thuan Hung Ward, Thot Not District mobilized forces to help people affected by landslides and subsidence.
By the afternoon of the same day, under the direction of the City People's Committee and affiliated units, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Thot Not District had advanced 40 million VND to support affected families.

In O Mon district, at 3:00 a.m. on May 13, 2025, in Long Dinh area, Long Hung ward, O Mon district, a landslide occurred on the asphalt road of the Bang Tang river pair, with a total landslide length of 46m, 4m wide (of which, the landslide was completely 30m, the cracks and subsidence were about 16m).
This is an inter-regional artery route (Long Dinh - Long Thanh - Thoi Hung) connecting Thai Thi Hanh Street to National Highway 91 (now Ton Duc Thang Street) with Long Hung 2 Kindergarten. At the same time, it is also a route with many means of transportation for daily life and production.
The landslide has severely affected the traffic route through the area. Fortunately, there were no human or property damage in the landslide.

The Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue informed that as of May 20, the area has recorded 3 types of natural disasters: 3 riverbank landslides, 5 heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, 1 high tide.
Regarding riverbank landslides, there were 3 times in the districts: O Mon, Thot Not and Thoi Lai with a total landslide length of 106 meters, completely causing landslides to 5 houses (4 households and 1 rice paper kiln), affecting 2 traffic routes, causing no human casualties. Estimated damage is over 150 million VND.
Regarding the problem of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, there were 5 floods in the districts: Thot Not, Thoi Lai, Vinh Thanh, Co Do, collapsing 2 houses, blowing off the roofs of 11 houses, causing no human casualties. The total damage is estimated at about 532 million VND.
