On the afternoon of May 21, Ba Le iron bridge on Tam Vu street, Hung Loi ward, Ninh Kieu district subsided and broke the vertical iron bar after a dump truck carrying construction materials passed through. This incident caused traffic obstruction, and the authorities immediately took action.

According to initial information, at around 16:30 on May 21, driver Nguyen Van Long (42 years old) was driving a dump truck with license plate 70H-56XX carrying construction materials, with a total estimated weight of more than 20 tons, traveling on Tam Vu Street (opposite the Can Tho River) from Hung Loi Bridge to Tran Hoang Na Bridge. When the vehicle reached the middle of the Ba Le iron bridge, it subsided and broke the iron bar along the left side, causing the project to no longer ensure safety for vehicles.


Immediately after the incident, the authorities quickly arrived at the scene, stretched ropes, installed signs and instructed people and vehicles to go around this area to ensure safety.


Living right at the foot of Ba Le bridge, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Ha (70 years old) said that at that time, she was in the house and saw a very large dump truck coming, she rushed to fight with a stick to stop it but could not do so. The dump truck passed by and the bridge collapsed, complaining loudly.

According to the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Management Department of Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City), through investigation, driver Nguyen Van Long stated that due to not knowing the route, the first time he ran across this bridge and not paying attention, he caused damage.
The Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Management Department of Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City) also informed that the unit and related parties are urgently surveying, assessing the damage and making plans to promptly overcome it. The damaging transport unit will be responsible for repairing the bridge.
