On September 3, Dakrong Traffic Police Station, Traffic Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police said that the unit had handled a truck driver who drove continuously for more than the prescribed time.
It is noteworthy that the violation was detected through GPS travel data transferred by the Traffic Police Department.
Running continuously to be on time for rice delivery
Previously, on September 1, Dakrong Traffic Police Station received information about a tractor-trailer with license plate 51D-614. xx, pulling a trailer with license plate 51R-402. xx, traveling on National Highway 9 in the direction from Lao Bao commune to Nam Dong Ha ward (Quang Tri province).
GPS travel data shows that the driver drove the transport business vehicle continuously from 3:53 to 9:06 on the same day, equivalent to more than 5 hours, exceeding the continuous driving time as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 64 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety.
After receiving information, Dakrong Traffic Police Station deployed forces to verify vehicles, drivers and organize patrols and inspections.
At about 10 pm on the same day, functional forces stopped the vehicle for inspection. The driver was identified as L.D. P, born in 1985.
At the meeting, after being informed by the Traffic Police force and having GPS tracking data shown, the driver admitted the violation.
According to information provided by officers of Dakrong Traffic Police Station, the tractor-trailer was carrying rice from the Tien Sa Port area, Da Nang to Quang Tri. Because he wanted to run on time for delivery and loading and unloading of rice, the driver drove the vehicle continuously, without arranging a proper rest time.
At the time of inspection, the vehicle was only directly driven by one driver.
Drivers and businesses fined 14 million VND
The Traffic Police force made a record against driver L.D. P for the act of driving a transport business vehicle beyond the time specified in Clause 1, Article 64 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety.
This act is specified in point b, clause 5, Article 21 of Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP dated December 26, 2024 of the Government.
According to Dakrong Traffic Police Station, the driver was fined 4 million VND and had 2 points off his driver's license.
Through verification, the tractor-trailer belongs to T.B Investment Joint Stock Company. This enterprise was fined 10 million VND for the act of assigning vehicles to employees to operate transport business vehicles beyond the prescribed time, according to point d, clause 9, Article 32 of Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP.
The total fine amount for drivers and vehicle owners is 14 million VND.
According to the Traffic Police force, the exploitation of GPS journey data helps proactively detect violations in transport business activities, even when violations are not recorded directly on the road.
Controlling driving time is aimed at preventing drivers from running continuously on long journeys, leading to fatigue, loss of concentration and increasing the risk of traffic accidents. Drivers should not ignore the necessary rest time because of the progress of receiving and delivering goods.
