On the morning of July 28, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Da Nang city organized a conference to evaluate the results of the implementation of the "500-day and night campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains".
Over the past time, the City Military Command has continued to maintain the operational efficiency of the specialized force; received and processed more than 500 sources of information, organized over 100 surveys, thereby identifying 320 locations suspected of having martyrs' remains that need to be exhumed. In 2026 alone, functional forces have searched and collected 29 martyrs' remains.
Regarding the task of taking biological samples to serve identification, the city has deployed synchronously at most martyrs' cemeteries in the area. As of July 27, units have exhumed nearly 5,000 graves, collecting more than 2,300 samples (reaching 46.33%). Among them, 891 samples have been handed over to the Forensic Institute for DNA testing.
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Anh Tuan requested agencies, units, and localities to focus highly, mobilize maximum forces and means to accelerate progress, and strive to complete the sampling of remains of unidentified martyrs in September.
The forces need to continue to expand the search and repatriation in key areas - where there are still many sources of information and traces of martyrs, determined to complete the target assigned by superiors on the occasion of July 27.
The city also determined to continue to consolidate the Steering Committee and working groups; improve the responsibility and effectiveness of coordination between the military force and departments, agencies, branches, unions and localities.
At the same time, focus on reviewing and completing dossiers and map data; actively exploit information from historical witnesses, veterans and people; promote propaganda and mobilize organizations and individuals to provide information about martyrs. Promptly remove difficulties, ensure that the "Operation 500 Days and Nights" is implemented drastically, on schedule and achieves practical effectiveness.
