Domestic wastewater flows into the sea
During the dry season, in the Nguyen Tat Thanh beach area (section belonging to Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city), many places have stagnant water, creating a foul smell and polluting the coast.
According to people living around this area, the situation of rainwater mixed with black wastewater flowing onto the beach has been happening for many years. At any time, wastewater flows out of the sewer mouth, "tearing" the sand, the water bubbles, has dirty scum and gives off a strong stench.
Especially at the sewer opposite Phung Hung Street (Lien Chieu District), the black, foaming wastewater flows straight into the sea.
Mr. Le Van Minh - a fisherman at Nguyen Tat Thanh beach said: "The black water with a foul smell flows straight into the sea. When mixed with sea water, the black water can still be seen within a range of hundreds of square meters. There are days when the stench is so strong that we cannot bear it."
The fact that wastewater mixed with rainwater is discharged directly into the sea has been happening for many years now, causing a significant impact on the feelings and experiences of tourists when visiting Da Nang.
Many people living here also expressed their hope that this situation will soon be resolved to restore a clean and beautiful environment.
Investment in drainage canal 100 billion
On September 14, the People's Committee of Da Nang City announced that it had issued a document on the implementation of urban drainage and flood prevention issues in the city.
In particular, the drainage line along Phung Hung Street, connecting Hoa Minh Canal to Da Nang Bay, Da Nang City People's Committee assigned the Management Board of Industrial Park and High-Tech Park Infrastructure Development Projects to urgently coordinate with relevant units to complete investment preparation procedures in 2024 to start construction no later than the beginning of the second quarter of 2025.
Previously, on August 16, the Urban Committee of the City People's Council held a working session with relevant units on the report proposing the investment policy for the project to invest in the sewer line from Phu Loc canal to Nguyen Tat Thanh street (on Phung Hung street).
The project includes building a new sewer line under Phung Hung Street connecting Hoa Minh Canal to the discharge gate on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street to reduce the load on Phu Loc Canal.
The upstream area connects to Hoa Minh - Phu Loc canal at the bridge on Phung Hung street.
In addition, sluice gates are arranged upstream of the sewer line to proactively operate and regulate water into the sewer during rains, and manholes are arranged along the sewer line according to regulations.
According to the Management Board of Industrial and High-Tech Park Infrastructure Development Projects, to ensure that wastewater does not overflow into the sea during the dry season, it is necessary to add a wastewater separation well at the Northwest of the Nguyen Tat Thanh - Phung Hung intersection to separate wastewater and connect it to the existing wastewater pipeline.
At the same time, fully restore traffic, drainage, and technical infrastructure systems along Phung Hung Street (from Hoa Minh - Phu Loc canal to the current embankment on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street) and the section of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street affected by the construction of the sewer line.
Total investment is expected to be 145.78 billion VND, implementation period 2024 - 2027, from the city budget.
