Garbage collection point more than 10 years ago cannot be relocated

The garbage collection point in front of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Culture House has existed for more than 10 years, causing pollution, but the locality is still confused about the handling plan.

Shabby, polluted for more than 10 years

Faced with the situation of garbage collection points in front of the gate of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Culture House affecting trade union activities and people's lives, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation and the Provincial Labor Culture House have repeatedly issued documents requesting the Hac Thanh Ward People's Committee to relocate. However, up to now, this garbage collection point still exists, continuing to cause pollution and frustration in the area.

To ensure conditions for organizing conferences, training, cultural, artistic, and sports activities of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Trade Union organization, union members, workers and people, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation requests the People's Committee of Hac Thanh ward and related units to consider and direct the relocation of the garbage collection point to a more suitable location, far from residential areas; and at the same time have measures to collect and treat waste to ensure environmental sanitation.

Not only affecting the activities of workers and trade unions, this garbage collection point also makes many households living near the area angry.

Sharing with reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, many people said that the garbage collection point has existed for more than 10 years, regularly causing environmental pollution, greatly affecting the daily life of the residential area. According to people, the matter has been repeatedly proposed at meetings with functional agencies, but has not been resolved definitively until now.

Real-world records at the garbage collection point show that the amount of garbage brought here every day is quite large, piled in long rows. Notably, at times garbage is congested and spills onto traffic roads; wastewater and odors surround, greatly affecting people's lives and travel.

No definitive solution yet

Before the recommendations of functional sectors, people and after Lao Dong Newspaper reflected the incident, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Cao Van Cuong assigned Hac Thanh Ward People's Committee to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to urgently inspect, verify, clarify the reflected information; promptly have handling solutions or propose competent authorities to handle according to regulations.

Although the incident has been directed by Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee to be handled, however, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leaders of Hac Thanh Ward People's Committee informed that the locality also recognized the inadequacies and pollution at this garbage collection point. However, the current difficulty is that the appropriate location for relocation has not been determined.

According to this representative, if relocating from the current location to another location without a fundamental plan, the risk of pollution will continue to arise. Meanwhile, other garbage collection points in the area are also experiencing a similar situation.

Representatives of Hac Thanh Ward People's Committee added that the solution considered by the ward is that from 2027, when signing a contract with a garbage collection unit, the ward will propose that businesses invest in large-sized collection vehicles. At that time, garbage generated will be transported immediately, limiting congestion and causing environmental pollution. However, this is only a planned solution. The implementation process may encounter difficulties if the collection enterprise does not ensure sufficient resources in terms of vehicles, personnel and operating capacity.

In addition to the garbage collection point in front of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Culture House, Hac Thanh ward has also continuously experienced congestion of domestic waste. Garbage is repeatedly piled up on roads and neighborhoods, greatly affecting people's lives.
