On November 27, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport announced that from November 28, Rach Dia Bridge on Le Van Luong Street will allow two-way traffic for cars and motorbikes.
As of November 27, Rach Dia Bridge has completed the final stages, including the installation of lighting systems, road markings, signs and nameplates. The approach road and bridge bed have also been completed, paved cleanly, and are ready to open to traffic on the morning of November 28.
Mr. Mai Van Thanh (65 years old) - living near Rach Dia bridge on Le Van Luong street for nearly 50 years, shared: "Previously, the old iron bridge was small and narrow, often congested, greatly affecting our lives. Now, with the new, spacious and airy bridge, everyone here is happy."
The opening of Rach Dia Bridge allows vehicles from Nguyen Van Linh Street to turn right onto Le Van Luong Street and go through Rach Dia Bridge to reach Nha Be District, instead of having to go through the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection, which is often congested.
During the construction period, the old iron bridge was dismantled, forcing people to travel around by another route. Restoring this traffic route not only creates convenience for people but also promotes trade activities between District 7 and Nha Be.
The opening of Rach Dia Bridge also supports traffic flow around the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho underpass construction site, helping to speed up the completion of the entire underpass project by the end of this year.
According to Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor), Rach Dia Bridge was completed and opened to traffic one month ahead of schedule.
In the total project investment of 512 billion VND, of which construction costs are 146 billion VND and compensation and resettlement support are 290 billion VND...
The bridge is 318 m long, 9 - 10.5 m wide, with approach roads at both ends 14 - 27 m wide.
Rach Dia Bridge is one of four weak bridges on Le Van Luong Street that need to be replaced, along with Long Kieng, Rach Tom and Rach Doi.
According to Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, the opening of Rach Dia bridge combined with Long Kieng bridge (opened to traffic in September 2023) has brought us closer to the goal of completing the traffic infrastructure on this vital route.
It is expected that Rach Tom Bridge will start construction in April 2025 and Rach Doi Bridge in December 2025. When these projects are completed, Le Van Luong route will not only significantly improve traffic capacity, but also strengthen connectivity with Long An province, promoting socio-economic development in the entire region.
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc also said that the opening of Rach Dia Bridge also marks the beginning of a 60-day and night peak period focusing on completing important traffic projects in Ho Chi Minh City before the Lunar New Year 2025.
Among them, there are many notable projects such as: Expanding Tan Ky - Tan Quy road and bridge (Binh Tan district); Phuoc Long bridge (connecting District 7 and Nha Be district); HC1 tunnel of Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho underpass project (District 7); a branch of Tang Long bridge (Thu Duc city); expanding Hoang Hoa Tham street and the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa (Tan Binh district); Ba Hom bridge (Binh Tan district); expanding Duong Quang Ham street (Go Vap district); Ba Dat bridge and Giong Ong To 2 bridge at An Phu intersection (Thu Duc city); parallel road of National Highway 50 (Binh Chanh district); Luong Dinh Cua street (section from Nguyen Hoang to Tran Nao intersection) ...
