Ho Chi Minh City opens Rach Dia bridge connecting District 7-Nha Be at the end of November

MINH QUÂN |

HCMC - Rach Dia Bridge on Le Van Luong Street, connecting Nha Be District and District 7, is expected to open to traffic at the end of November, one month earlier than the original plan.

Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Ho Chi Minh City (Traffic Board), has just signed a document to send to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City reporting the plan to organize the opening ceremony and put Rach Dia bridge into operation.

The Rach Dia Bridge construction project has a total investment of about 500 billion VND to replace the old Rach Dia Bridge which has been severely degraded, unable to ensure the load capacity and safety for vehicles; at the same time, the project contributes to completing the traffic infrastructure system, enhancing regional traffic connections and promoting socio-economic development in the southern area of the city.

The new Rach Dia Bridge is approximately 318 m long and 9 m to 10.5 m wide. The road at the bridgehead is designed to be 14 m to 27 m wide and approximately 153 m long, connecting to the existing Le Van Luong Street.

The project also includes construction of drainage systems, planting trees on sidewalks, installation of lighting systems suitable for the landscape and completion according to road standards.

Rach Dia Bridge started construction on July 20, 2023 and completed the entire project site on November 18, 2024.

The project will be opened to traffic on November 30, one month earlier than originally planned.

According to Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, the opening of Rach Dia Bridge on November 30 will contribute to enhancing traffic connections between District 7 and Nha Be District, reducing congestion in the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City. This will not only facilitate people's travel but also promote economic and social activities in the southern area of the city.

In addition, from November, the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection tunnel project will carry out construction of part of Nguyen Van Linh road surface to ensure the goal of opening the HC1 tunnel to traffic on December 31, 2024.

This construction will affect traffic at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection. Therefore, the early opening of Rach Dia bridge will create a new route, separate traffic flow and reduce congestion during the construction of the underpass project.

To ensure the traffic opening plan is on schedule, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Committee has requested the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport to support the unification of the policy and plan to organize this event on the morning of November 30.

The early opening will help reduce traffic pressure and create favorable conditions for traffic organization to serve the construction of the underpass at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection.
