Over the years, although local authorities have implemented many solutions, waste and pollution at Ong Bau canal and Chin Xieng canal (An Nhon ward) are still a long-standing obsession for people in the area.

Mr. Ho Van Tao (resident of An Nhon ward) said that Chin Xieng canal is currently severely narrowed due to domestic waste, water hyacinth and animal carcasses accumulating. This situation not only causes a strong stench but also poses a risk of severe flooding when heavy rain occurs.

Although functional forces have repeatedly launched campaigns to collect garbage, dredge bottlenecks and prune green trees, after only a short time, garbage continues to accumulate. Local people expressed their desire for the canal to be thoroughly renovated soon to bring a greener and cleaner living environment.

Faced with the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has assigned the Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board to implement the project to build infrastructure and improve the environment of Ong Bau canal and Chin Xieng canal. The total investment for the project is more than 2,939 billion VND, from the city budget.

The project aims to improve drainage capacity, reduce localized flooding for residential areas along canals and adjacent roads, especially during the rainy season. Minimize frequent flooding that affects people's daily life and economic activities.

In which, investing in building Ong Bau canal with a total length of 380m (section 1, from Tham Luong-Ben Cat-Rach Nuoc Len canal to Tran Ba Giao street is about 50m long; section 2, going almost perpendicular to section 1 connecting from Nhu Lai Pagoda extending towards road No. 14, about 330m long).
Investing in the construction of the Chin Xieng canal with a total length of 890m (section 1, from Nguyen Thai Son street to Street No. 2 with a length of 700m; section 2, adjacent to section 1 to Duong Quang Ham street with a length of about 100m; section 3, connecting from the beginning of section 1 to the existing box culvert, length of about 90m).

At the same time, the project also builds synchronous technical infrastructure along the Ong Bau canal and Chin Xieng canal routes; builds traffic roads, drainage systems, lighting and parks, green spaces along the canals to connect existing residential areas.

The project contributes to reducing the load on existing infrastructure, improving accessibility and regional connectivity; improving the quality of living space, promoting sustainable socio-economic development of An Nhon ward and surrounding areas.
