According to a quick report from the People's Committee of Thach Thanh district (Thanh Hoa province), due to the impact of storm No. 3, from September 6 to September 12, there was heavy rain, even by the morning of September 12, the measured rainfall was 102.4mm.
Due to heavy and prolonged rain, the water level of the Buoi River measured at 9:00 a.m. on September 12 was 11.29 m, 29 cm above alarm level II. Up to now, the water level of the Buoi River continues to rise.
Heavy rains occurred, causing reservoirs in the area to overflow and reach the overflow threshold. In particular, Tay Trac Lake reached an overflow level of 1m, flooding and cutting off Provincial Road 516 to Thanh Tien Commune and Provincial Road 523. At the same time, flooding many rice and crop areas in Thanh Long and Thanh Tien Communes.
Up to now, in Thach Thanh district, there are still more than 20 km of flooded roads, affecting the travel of people in Thanh Minh, Thanh Cong, Thanh Tan, Thanh Truc, Ngoc Trao, Thanh Tam, Thanh Tien, Thanh Long communes and Kim Tan town.
More than 826 hectares of rice; 921 hectares of sugarcane; more than 12 hectares of corn; more than 150 hectares of vegetables were damaged due to collapse and flooding; more than 60 hectares of aquaculture area were affected.
Prolonged heavy rain also caused more than 230 houses in Kim Tan town, Van Du town and 6 communes including: Thach Cam, Thanh Vinh, Thach Binh, Thanh Truc, Thanh Tam, Thanh Tien to be flooded.
According to the People's Committee of Thach Thanh district, currently, 67 households living in deeply flooded areas have been evacuated to safe places. For the remaining households, the district has directed communes and towns to prepare evacuation plans and move people to safe places when flood waters continue to rise.
Faced with the complicated developments of floods, on September 12, Mr. Trinh Tuan Sinh - Deputy Secretary of Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee and the provincial working delegation inspected the flood situation and directed the response and recovery work of storm No. 3 in Thach Thanh district.
At the inspection, representatives of Thanh Hoa province's leaders highly appreciated the work of flood prevention and control and support for local people. Along with that, they requested Thach Thanh district to continue to strengthen its forces, closely monitor key areas, inspect and direct communes and towns to have timely response plans.
In particular, continue to organize 24/7 on-duty, closely monitor the water level of Buoi River and the flooding situation in the district to have a command and handling plan.
Monitor areas at risk of landslides and deep flooding to prepare evacuation plans; organize forces to support and help households affected by natural disasters with accommodation, food, necessities, especially households that are flooded and have to evacuate.
In addition, mobilize forces to guard and be on duty at flooded traffic points to guide and help ensure safety for people and vehicles.
It is known that on the morning of September 12, at the spillway point of Thanh Tien commune bordering Thanh Long commune (Thach Thanh district) on provincial road 516B, a truck carrying acacia seedlings stalled due to flooding while passing through the spillway. The vehicle was then swept away by floodwaters 3m downstream. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any human casualties.
