Painfully away from the dead pine forest
On March 6, authorities in Lam Dong province actively investigated the pine forest poisoning case that occurred in Bao Lam district.
According to the records at the scene, the pine forest poisoned by the above chemicals belongs to the forest management and protection department of Ha Phong Joint Stock Company (located in Village 13, Loc Ngai Commune, Bao Lam District).
Back at the pine tree, we saw small holes drilled deep into the trunk by "forest bandits" and poured chemicals that caused the trees to slowly die. This is a method that "forest bandits" have used to destroy pine forests that has occurred for decades in Lam Dong province in general and Bao Lam district in particular to encroach on land.
According to statistics from the authorities, in Clause 5, Sub-area 614, a total of 174 3-leaf pine trees were poisoned and died. The estimated volume of damaged wood is 291 cubic meters and the estimated area of damaged forest is within a range of about 2 hectares.
Accordingly, for each dead pine tree, a deep hole in the trunk is drilled, then chemicals are pumped in to detoxify. Although it has been a long time, most of the drilling holes on the poisoned pine trees are still rented with plastic.
Currently, the authorities of Bao Lam district and Lam Dong province have coordinated to examine the scene of the incident. The poisoned pine trees were also numbered in order to serve the investigation.
It is worth mentioning that the above-mentioned poisoned pine forest is located right next to the people's green coffee garden.
In particular, there is an area of pine forest poisoned below the forest canopy that has been encroached upon and intercropped with coffee trees.
Poisoning pine forests to occupy land?
According to the leader of Bao Lam District Forest Protection Department, the above pine forest poisoning case was discovered on February 14, 2025.
Through the investigation of the scene, it was initially determined that from the 26th to the 28th of the Lunar New Year 2025, the subjects had drilled the poison holes in the pine forest.
After the discovery, Bao Lam District Forest Protection Department coordinated with relevant agencies and Ha Phong Joint Stock Company to deploy detoxification measures to treat pine forests.
However, due to the large amount of chemicals used by the "forest bandits", the detoxification and treatment of pine forests was unsuccessful.
In the past, after learning about the incident, the People's Committee of Bao Lam district has continuously directed and assigned relevant authorities to coordinate with the People's Committee of Loc Ngai commune, the Commune Police and Ha Phong Joint Stock Company to focus on investigating to quickly clarify the deforestation case.
Thereby, urgently completing documents and procedures to prosecute the case and transfer it to the Lam Dong provincial investigation agency to continue investigating and clarifying the pine forest poisoning case according to regulations.
The People's Committee of Bao Lam district also assigned the District Forest Protection Department to coordinate with competent agencies, the People's Committee of Loc Ngai commune and Ha Phong Joint Stock Company to report on handling the responsibilities of organizations and individuals related to the deforestation case; at the same time, propose to handle the forest owner, Ha Phong Joint Stock Company, who caused the above pine forest poisoning case.
According to statistics from 2023 to present, pine forests under the forest division of Ha Phong Joint Stock Company have had at least 3 cases of pine forest poisoning by uprooting and drilling holes to dump chemicals.
Most of the pine forest poisoning cases are for the purpose of encroachment to get production land.
