Investigation into the case of construction unit filling soil into the base of pine tree

Lam Dong – The Da Lat City Forest Protection Department is investigating the cause of the death of many pine trees. Among them is the case of the construction unit filling the tree roots with soil.

On January 16, according to a report from the Lam Dong Provincial Forest Protection Department, authorities are investigating the case of many dead pine trees.

The first case was discovered on January 10, in sub-area 157B (Ward 4, Da Lat city). Accordingly, the working group of the Tuyen Lam Lake National Tourist Area Management Board discovered 7 dead 3-leaf pine trees (group IV).

Through investigation, it was determined that while constructing the road, Nam Thanh Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company filled the soil at the base of the tree. The company filled the soil on August 16, 2023 and immediately fixed it.

The total volume of damaged forest products is 5.24m3. The incident is being further investigated and handled by the Da Lat City Forest Protection Department.

The next case was discovered on January 14 in sub-area 267A (Ward 3, Da Lat city).

At that time, the working group including Lam Vien Forest Management Board, Ward 3 People's Committee and Da Lat City Forest Protection Department patrolled and discovered 6 3-leaf pine trees affected. Of which 5 trees had their roots burned and were still standing, fresh trees were cut down, and no forest products were left at the scene.

During the investigation, Nguyen Dinh Hau (residing in Do Luong district, Nghe An) admitted to deforestation. The case is being further investigated and handled by the Da Lat City Forest Protection Department.
