Devastated scene after thunderstorm in Quy Hop commune

Nghe An - The scene after the thunderstorm in Quy Hop commune was messy with fallen trees, corrugated iron roofs flying far away, and many heavily damaged houses are being urgently repaired.

On May 6, Quy Hop leaders said that thunderstorms and hailstorms occurred from the afternoon of May 3 to the early morning of May 4, causing heavy damage to the locality. Currently, the whole commune is mobilizing forces to support people to overcome the consequences and soon stabilize their lives.

At the scene in many residential areas, a series of corrugated iron roofs were blown away by the wind, stuck on treetops or scattered around people's houses. Many large green trees were knocked down and uprooted, blocking the road.

Many houses had their roofs completely blown off, the iron frame was bent, walls cracked, and furniture inside was cluttered after heavy rain. Some households had to collect property immediately at night to prevent water from continuing to flood into their houses.

Notably, some corrugated iron roofs were swept up high and then stuck tightly on tree trunks for many meters. Many auxiliary works, barns, and fences were also damaged after the prolonged thunderstorm.

According to Quy Hop Commune People's Committee, natural disasters have damaged 50 houses, including 1 house damaged over 70%, 3 houses damaged from 50-70%, 9 houses damaged from 30-50% and 37 houses partially affected.

The scene at Quy Hop Town Secondary School also recorded many damaged items, including a student parking garage of about 143 m2 collapsing after a tornado.

In addition to houses, about 160 hectares of rice were affected, 70 hectares of corn were broken and fallen, 37 hectares of acacia were damaged. Storms also knocked down 15 power poles, affecting about 6,000 m2 of fish ponds.

The initial total damage is estimated by the locality at about 5 billion VND.

Immediately after the natural disaster, police, military, mass organizations and local people supported affected households to clear fallen trees, move property, dismantle dangerous corrugated iron roofs and temporarily repair houses.

Leaders of Quy Hop commune said that the locality is continuing to review damage to propose to higher levels to support people to repair houses and restore production.
