On January 15, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Thuan province said that the fire that occurred in December 2023 at Phan Thiet Shipbuilding and Repair Company Limited in Phan Thiet city caused damage to 10 fishing boats (a total of 11 boats but 1 fishing boat was ownerless), including 3 boats insured at Bao Minh Company, 6 boats insured at Bao Viet Binh Thuan Company and 1 fishing boat not insured.
After a period of approaching the case and assessing the property damage, up to now, the insurance companies have proceeded to settle the compensation for the owners of the damaged fishing boats. Bao Minh Binh Thuan Company has completed the assessment of the loss and related documents/certificates, and settled the compensation for the owners of the 3 insured fishing boats.
Bao Viet Binh Thuan Company has completed the compensation settlement for the owners of 6 fishing boats in the fire. In the case of 1 fishing boat that was not insured and caught fire in the incident, the owner of the boat has agreed to compensate the owner of the boat repair facility and has been facilitated by the authorities to repair the damage so that the fishing boat can soon be put into production.
In this case, the Investigation Police Agency of Binh Thuan Province Police has completed the investigation of the case of "Violation of regulations on fire prevention and fighting" and proposed to prosecute the accused Hang Phi Ho. Ho was a welder at the above fishing boat repair shop who was careless and let welding slag fall on flammable materials such as oil and grease in the engine room. The consequence was a fire on the fishing boat BTh 99897TS and the fire then spread to 10 other fishing boats anchored nearby.
