In the afternoon of July 19 and on July 20, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh - Standing Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee directly appeared at the scene to direct firefighting work in plots 14 and 16, sub-area 156, Phu Bai ward.
According to the Nam Song Huong Regional Forest Protection Department, on July 19, the unit received a report about 5 forest fire points about 1km apart in the above area.
Due to prolonged hot weather, strong winds and thick dry ground, the fire quickly spread to a part of the production forest area. The fire area has hilly and dangerous terrain, many locations are deep in the forest, causing difficulties for access and firefighting.
Right in the afternoon of July 19, under the direction of the leaders of Hue City People's Committee and City Police, more than 300 people including forest rangers, fire police, army, police, militia, local forces and related units were mobilized to participate in extinguishing the fire.
By the evening of the same day, the fire was basically under control. However, due to strong winds, some fire points broke out again at night. Phu Bai Ward People's Committee established a forward command to monitor developments, direct firefighting and be ready with evacuation plans if necessary.
On July 20, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh continued to direct the mobilization of additional forces, deploy the "4 on-the-spot" motto, zone and thoroughly handle the remaining fire points. On the same day, all 5 fire points were completely extinguished.
After controlling the fire, leaders of Hue City People's Committee requested forces to continue to be on duty, patrol, and thoroughly handle the risk of smoke fire, not allowing the fire to flare up again; and at the same time urgently inventory the affected forest area, determine the cause of the fire and deploy solutions to restore forest area according to regulations.
