On the afternoon of July 20, Mr. Tran Viet Dung - Chairman of Nam Cua Viet Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) confirmed that functional forces had just coordinated to basically extinguish a forest fire that occurred on a large scale in Vinh Hoa village.
Previously, at about 7 pm on July 19, a fire suddenly occurred in the protection forest and production forest area of Vinh Hoa village. Upon receiving the news, local forces quickly arrived to deploy firefighting measures. At about 8:30 pm on the same day, the fire was basically controlled. However, due to harsh weather conditions, the fire suddenly flared up again at about 11 am on July 20.
Immediately after discovering the incident, leaders of Nam Cua Viet commune urgently directed and mobilized all forces to participate in the rescue. A large number of officers and soldiers from the Commune Police, the Commune Military Command, Trieu Van Border Guard Station, Border Guard Flotilla 2, Permanent Militia Flotilla, Flotilla 202 (Coast Guard Region 2 Command), Forest Protection Department, along with the Fire and Rescue Police force of the Provincial Police, local officials and people quickly approached the scene.

Many specialized fire fighting vehicles and equipment were also urgently mobilized to serve the firefighting work.
At the scene, the forces synchronously deployed many professional measures, cordoned off areas, cleared ground to create firebreaks to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring forest areas. Firefighting work faced many difficulties due to prolonged intense heat, low air humidity and thick and dry ground cover.
With the efforts and smooth coordination of the forces, by about 2 pm on July 20, the forest fire was basically controlled. Currently, the weather is hot and windy, so the fire may flare up again, so the People's Committee of Nam Cua Viet commune requested the forces to closely monitor the area to handle any situations that occur.
The cause of the forest fire as well as the extent of damage are being further investigated and clarified by the local government in coordination with functional agencies.
