According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province, as of August 21, the whole province of Quang Tri has recorded African swine fever in 60/78 communes and wards, with more than 54,800 pigs forced to be destroyed.
The total weight of pigs destroyed by the epidemic was up to more than 3,000 tons. Mr. Tran Cong Tam - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province - said that the communes of Dan Hoa and Bac Gianh have not had any new outbreaks for 21 days.
Notably, up to this point, most large-scale pig farms, both applying high technology and enclosed livestock, are still safe and have not recorded any cases of disease.
However, the risk of the epidemic recurring and spreading is still high due to unfavorable weather conditions, slow vaccination in some places, and unsafe biological cages, while the awareness of disease prevention of a part of the people is still limited.
The agricultural sector and localities are synchronously and drastically implementing epidemic prevention and control measures according to regulations. In particular, 47 communes and wards have signed labor contracts with 82 commune-level veterinary staff and mobilized 19 more staff with animal husbandry and veterinary expertise from the Agriculture and Environment sector to the grassroots level, contributing significantly to disease control and livestock protection.
