On August 18, the Military Command (CHQS) of Hue City said that the unit had just handed over 1,065 more martyr remains samples to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for DNA testing.
This is the 6th handover phase and also the last phase in the plan. Through 6 phases, Hue City has transferred a total of 3,908 martyr remains samples, of which all samples meet the requirements for DNA testing.
Sampling was deployed from May 26 at Phong My Martyrs' Cemetery (Phong Dien ward), within the framework of the "500-day and night campaign to search, collect and identify martyrs' remains".
After nearly 3 months of implementation, by the afternoon of August 13, functional forces completed the biological sample collection. This result was completed 6 months earlier than the progress assigned by Military Region 4 and 8 months earlier than the requirements of the National Steering Committee.
According to statistics, there are currently 7,282 unidentified graves in 42 martyrs' cemeteries in Hue City. Functional forces have taken samples from 3,908 graves to serve the work of identifying identities using DNA methods.
Hue City Military Command said that the process of collecting, preserving, transporting and handing over samples was carried out in accordance with procedures, ensuring safety and full conditions for testing.
The completion of sample collection and handover is identified as one of the important results of Steering Committee 515 of Hue City in the process of implementing the campaign. The DNA testing results are expected to contribute to identifying the martyrs, providing more information about their hometowns, relatives and helping families have more opportunities to find the graves of those who have sacrificed.
