The defense area exercise of Hòn Đất district in 2024 takes place over 2 days, July 30 and 31, with the theme: Transitioning armed forces to combat readiness states, transitioning the locality to defense states; organizing preparation and practicing defensive operations. This is the first district in Kiên Giang province to organize a defense area exercise in 2024.
In his opening speech, Chairman of the Kiên Giang Provincial People's Committee Lâm Minh Thành stated that the political and economic situation in the world and the region is complicated. Domestically and within the province, hostile forces and reactionary organizations continue to oppose on many fronts, exploiting cyberspace to distort, incite disturbances in security and order, and are always ready to intervene and launch an invasion war when given the opportunity, especially the complex and prolonged land-related complaints occurring in Hòn Đất district. Therefore, this exercise will help local authorities and governments to be vigilant and ready to respond to any possible situations.
Mr. Lâm Minh Thành affirmed that building a defense area is a strategic policy of our Party and State on building an all-people national defense, a people's defense posture associated with a people's security posture, which is the development of Vietnamese military art to create potential, forces, and an all-people posture; building internal strength to thwart the sabotage schemes of hostile forces and external invasion wars.
To ensure the success of the exercise and achieve the set goals and requirements, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that collectives and individuals during the exercise prepare well for the content of meetings, adhere closely to the established exercise schedule, comply with the time, speak with focus, and provide clear and specific solutions. The practice of the exercise in various positions both in the hall and in the field requires close coordination among forces to avoid overlap. Ensure the confidentiality of documents and records according to regulations. Ensure absolute safety in all aspects before, during, and after the exercise.
Following the opening is the exercise consisting of 2 live-action contents: Live-action A2 resolving the situation of a large crowd causing security disturbances; live-action of the reinforced infantry company advancing in attack.
Hòn Đất is the district with the largest natural area in Kiên Giang province, with a population of over 159,000 people (in 2023). Alongside the task of socio-economic development, the Party Committee of Hòn Đất district focuses on leading and directing the construction and consolidation of national defense and security, achieving important results, maintaining stable political security in the area. The socio-economic growth in 2023 was quite good, with 26/26 targets achieved and exceeded the set plan; the people's living standards are increasingly improving, and national defense and security are being consolidated and strengthened.
