According to the Ha Long-Yen Tu Bay World Heritage Management Board, in June 2026, the unit coordinated with experts from the Institute of Geological and Mineral Sciences, the Institute of Archeology, and the University of Natural Sciences to conduct surveys, general investigations, and prepare dossiers for 10 caves in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay.
Those are the caves: Hoa Cuong cave, Bo Nau cave, Trinh Nu cave, Thien Cung De Nhat Dong cave, Huu cave, Lau Dai cave, Trong cave, Ba Cua cave on Ha Long Bay; Soi Nhu cave, Cai De cave on Bai Tu Long Bay.
During the survey, experts detailed the morphology and described the characteristics of the cave geological structure, while studying the formation and development process, biodiversity values and cultural - historical values of the caves.

From these research results, experts will prepare a detailed profile, including building a database, establishing standard and vertical projection diagrams, assessing natural and cultural values, and the potential for exploitation to serve conservation and sustainable tourism development of caves.
Along with 20 caves that have been detailed measured and drawn by the Ha Long-Yen Tu Bay World Heritage Management Board before, the records of the caves in this survey will be an important scientific basis for the management, preservation and promotion of the value of Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay.
Ha Long Bay was honored twice by UNESCO in 2000 for its outstanding geological and geomorphological values, but to this day, this value has hardly been exploited.
The landscape and aesthetic value of Ha Long Bay is still considered majestic, poetic and unique in the world, but the geological and geomorphological values are also at the top of the world, especially for the cave system.
According to tourism workers in Ha Long Bay, the geological and geomorphological value of this heritage may not be as attractive as the landscape and aesthetic value for the majority of tourists, but in the segment of tourists who want to explore, learn and spend heavily, this is an extremely large and very valuable resource.
The outstanding global geological and geomorphological value of Ha Long Bay is affirmed by the fact that it is a karst landscape that matures in hot and humid tropical conditions, has been invaded and modified many times by the sea and is still partially submerged in water.
Ha Long Bay gathers almost all basic forms of karst terrain such as karst plains; funnels and valleys; karst peaks and towers. The sea also submerges funnels, subsidence holes and karst valleys, creating saltwater lakes, or valleys. Ha Long Bay caves are very rich and diverse, with over 60 caves and belong to 3 main cave groups: ancient underground caves (hanging caves), karst base caves, sea frog jaws.
