On May 20, a working delegation of the Border Guard Command led by Lieutenant General Vu Trung Kien, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Commander of the Border Guard, came to work and inspect the results of implementing Border Guard tasks and building forces at the Border Guard Command of An Giang province.
In the working program, the Border Guard Command announced the decision and awarded prizes to collectives with outstanding achievements in the fight against Project AG1225. 2p on combating illegal transportation of gold across borders.
According to the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command, in the past time, due to the difference in gold prices at home and abroad, the activities of criminals illegally transporting gold from Cambodia through the An Giang provincial border line have tended to increase and become complicated, especially before, during and after the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026.
The cargo owners often hire people residing in areas on both sides of the border, familiar with the terrain and roads to transport illegal gold from Cambodia into Vietnam through trails, open paths, rivers, canals, and ditches; then gather and use cars and motorbikes to bring it into the country for consumption.
Through professional work, functional forces discovered in the former An Phu district including An Phu and Khanh Binh communes, An Giang province, a suspicious gold illegal transportation line from Cambodia to Vietnam led by a number of subjects. Through investigation and verification, functional agencies determined that this line was organizing illegal gold transportation through the border area of An Giang province into the inland for consumption, so a special project was established to fight.
After the special case was established, the Special Case Committee directed the task force to synchronously deploy professional measures, focusing on investigating, verifying, and closely monitoring the movements, methods, and tricks of operation of related subjects.

During the special case investigation, functional forces discovered another subject, Nguyen Van Khanh (born in 2004, residing in Khanh Binh commune, An Giang province), who was directly related to the ring. The subject was assigned the task of illegally leaving the country to Cambodia to receive gold and then transporting it back to Vietnam for consumption. The Special Case Committee then decided to add Nguyen Van Khanh to the subject in the special case.
After a period of monitoring, seeing that the opportunity had come, the Special Project Committee decided to lift the net, until 1:45 pm on May 7, 2026, in the Hau River bank area, about 55m from the river border towards Vietnam (belonging to An Hoa hamlet, Khanh Binh commune, An Giang province), the task force caught Nguyen Van Khanh red-handed transporting a gold metal bar from Cambodia into Vietnam, about 11cm x 4.5cm x 0.7cm in size, weighing about 1kg, suspected to be gold. Through the results of the request for appraisal, it was gold (Au: 99.95%), valued at over 4 billion VND.
An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command directed professional forces to coordinate with functional agencies to investigate and verify the criminal acts of the subjects to handle them according to the provisions of law and continue to expand the investigation of the case.
