Currently, traffic connecting the South and the center of Ho Chi Minh City is mainly through routes such as Nguyen Huu Tho, Kenh Te bridge, Tan Thuan bridge and Nguyen Tat Thanh.
However, these routes have become overloaded, leading to frequent traffic jams, negatively affecting people's lives and economic activities.
One of the notable projects is Nguyen Khoi bridge and road with a total investment of more than 3,700 billion VND, expected to start construction at the end of this year and be completed in 2027.
This project is designed to share traffic pressure with existing roads. Nguyen Khoi Bridge has a total length of nearly 5km, of which the main bridge is about 2.5km long, the remaining road is more than 2.3km long.
This route will start from D1 Street, connecting Saigon University with Nguyen Van Linh Street and Him Lam residential area, District 7, then crossing Te Canal and Ben Nghe Canal to connect to Vo Van Kiet Street in District 1. Other branches of the bridge will also be built to connect with District 4.
In addition, the Binh Tien bridge and road project is also a key project with a length of 3.2km and a width of 30-40m, aiming to solve the overload situation on the routes connecting District 8 with the city center.
The starting point of this project will be at the Binh Tien - Pham Van Chi intersection (District 6), then cross Vo Van Kiet Avenue and Tau Hu Canal, before connecting to Nguyen Van Linh Avenue in Binh Chanh District. The total investment of the project is more than 6,200 billion VND, implemented in the form of BOT.
It is expected that Binh Tien bridge and road will start construction at the end of 2025 and be completed in 2028, creating a new road axis from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Nguyen Van Linh Street, while connecting with National Highway 50, National Highway 1 and expressways.
Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City) is currently only connected to the center via District 1 and Binh Thanh, which causes many limitations in connecting with southern districts such as District 4 and District 7.
To solve this problem, the Thu Thiem 4 Bridge project will be implemented, connecting Thu Thiem New Urban Area with District 7. Thu Thiem 4 Bridge is 2.16 km long, with a total investment of about 4,840 billion VND, expected to start construction in 2025 and be completed in 2028.
This bridge not only reduces traffic congestion on existing routes such as Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Huynh Tan Phat, but also promotes socio-economic development in the area.
Another bridge project that will also start construction in 2025 is Can Gio Bridge . This is an important bridge connecting Can Gio district with Nha Be, crossing the Soai Rap River with a length of about 7.3km. The total estimated investment of Can Gio Bridge is more than 10,500 billion VND, invested in the form of BOT.
The project is expected to be completed in 2028, replacing the Binh Khanh ferry and connecting Ho Chi Minh City's only island district with the central area.
Can Gio Bridge not only improves traffic connectivity, but also promotes the development of the Can Gio Sea Reclamation Urban Area project and Can Gio International Transit Port.
