Participating in protecting the northern border when he was just a young man turning 18 years old, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoa (Tuyen Quang City) at that time had just received an entrance exam from the University of Mechanical Engineering, put aside his dream of a book with many ambitions.
In early 1978, Mr. Hoa enlisted in the army and was stationed at Division 346 in Cao Lang province (now Lang Son and Cao Bang).
"I myself did not expect that the decision to join the army would be the fate of my life because exactly 1 year later, the war on the northern border broke out, I was the one on the front lines of the front line," Mr. Hoa confided.

There is a common point of veterans like Mr. Hoa: every time they mention war, one of the most memorable things is the affection between the army and the people. The rear and support forces always accompany the soldiers in the cause of defending the fatherland.
Every year, on holidays, I and my teammates at Division 346 return to visit the old battlefield. Every souvenir, every person is still deeply engraved in my heart," Mr. Hoa confided.

As for Mr. Nguyen Tien Hong in Phu Tho, every February, traveling more than 300km to Vi Xuyen Cemetery to visit his comrades who have always been in the fight to protect the northern border, every time, he carries with him many intertwined emotions.
"I initially joined Hoang Lien Son. At that time, the 316th Regiment of 174 was reinforced to support the border campaign. Now, as I recall, so many memories come flooding back. Those were the glorious years of our army and people, fighting to protect the homeland" - Mr. Hong recalled.
