On September 17, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Lam Dong province informed that the whole province has more than 500 locations at risk of landslides, flooding, and flash floods. Of these, there are 396 landslide locations and landslide risks, 101 locations of flooding, flash floods, and 3 locations of subsidence.
The rainy season in Lam Dong province lasts from May to November, with an average rainfall of 1,750 - 3,150mm/year. Every year, the province's rainfall is always higher than the national average. Prolonged rain weakens the ground, making it susceptible to landslides.
According to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Lam Dong province, recently in Da Lat city, Bao Loc city, Dam Rong district, Lam Ha district, many serious landslides have occurred, causing heavy losses in human life and property.
According to statistics, there are currently 50 local landslides in Da Lat city. Of which, there are 2 serious landslide areas. Bao Loc city has 118 areas. Of which, there are 2 areas where serious landslides have occurred.
Dam Rong district has 47 landslide areas. Of which, there is 1 serious landslide area in Da K'Nang commune. Lam Ha district has 7 landslide areas. Of which, there is 1 serious landslide area.
To provide early warning of landslides and flash floods, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has requested a review of constructions at risk of landslides, residential areas along rivers, streams, and slopes with large slope differences for early handling.
In addition, the relevant departments should map out landslide and flash flood zones to serve as a basis for planning and construction. In particular, it is necessary to build a system to monitor, forecast and give early warning of landslides and floods.
