In the early morning of April 17, in Khanh Yen commune, a household was struck by lightning, damaging the porch, causing damage of about 50 million VND.
Fortunately, there were no casualties. Local authorities promptly visited, provided initial support and mobilized forces to help the family overcome the consequences.
Functional sectors assess that the risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes, and lightning will continue in the coming time.


Localities are required to continue to review and prioritize supporting households that are heavily damaged, and at the same time advise people to proactively prevent to limit risks.
Meanwhile, in just a short time, hailstorms accompanied by thunderstorms on April 16 caused heavy damage to Bac Ha commune. A quick report shows that 4 people were injured, all workers sleeping in a shack in Ngai So village. The victims were taken to the emergency room in time and their health is currently stable.
The whole commune recorded 333 damaged houses, mainly with punctured roofs and broken roofing sheets. On the morning of April 16, many households urgently temporarily repaired to stabilize their lives.

Not only housing, agricultural production in Bac Ha is also seriously damaged. More than 115ha of crops are crushed, about 370ha of fruit trees are in the early fruiting period and have fallen, many gardens have reduced production by over 80%.
Mr. Bui Minh Hai - Chairman of Bac Ha Commune People's Committee said that due to ice rain occurring at night, the level of damage increased. Immediately after the natural disaster, the locality mobilized forces to support people to repair houses, and at the same time organized visits to affected households.


Currently, commune leaders have directly gone to the grassroots level to inspect, grasp the situation and direct remedial work, prioritizing households with heavily damaged houses.
Not only Bac Ha, many other localities are also affected. According to the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province has 338 households suffering housing damage, nearly 486ha of crops affected. Total estimated damage is about 40 billion VND.

Faced with complicated weather developments, localities have activated response plans, maintained 24/24 hour duty forces, ready to handle arising situations. The work of statistics and damage assessment is being urgently completed to develop appropriate support plans.
