On the morning of October 1, speaking with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Thai Luong Thien - Head of the Education and Training Division of Tuong Duong district (Nghe An) said that Luong Minh Primary Boarding School (in Minh Tien village, Luong Minh commune) had to let students stay home so that their parents could pick them up. Local authorities urgently supported the recovery from the flash flood that occurred on the evening of September 30.
Accordingly, on the evening of September 30, heavy rain occurred over a large area in the locality, causing water to flow violently, rising and flooding almost the entire school. At that time, many teachers were still on duty in the school but did not have time to evacuate their belongings and equipment.
At the time the flood hit, in addition to teachers, there were nearly 300 boarding students staying in the dormitory.
Within minutes, the school yard was flooded to a depth of about 1 meter. Most of the classrooms and the cafeteria were flooded. Most of the students' books and school supplies were soaked.
The leader of the People's Committee of Luong Minh commune said that the prolonged heavy rain and flash floods caused a series of landslides in the area. Local authorities had to evacuate about 80 people in Dua village during the night.
"The most serious is the landslide on the main road of the commune running along the Nam Non River. Now the commune is cut off at the position passing through Dua village. The inner villages are isolated" - said the leader of the People's Committee of Luong Minh commune.
According to the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district, flash floods on the night of September 30 completely isolated 4 villages of Luong Minh commune.
Currently, Dua village with 180 households and 2 primary schools and Luong Minh kindergarten are deeply flooded. Many landslides have cut off traffic. There are no statistics on the damage yet, but initial information shows that many houses were severely damaged and many properties were swept away by the flood.
