The whole morning of January 1, New Year's Day, the main roads from Bai Chay Tourist Area to Tuan Chau were deserted.
Ha Long International Cruise Port and Tuan Chau International Cruise Port are both sparsely populated. According to some cruise ship owners at these two ports, the number of visitors on the first day of Tet is not even as much as on previous normal days. This is understandable, because civil servants, students, etc. only have one day off, and it is in the middle of the week, so visitors can choose to go nearby or stay home to rest.
This is the season for international tourists. On the morning of January 1, 2025, most of the passengers boarding the ship to visit Ha Long Bay were mainly international tourists, mainly Chinese and Korean tourists.

According to the Quang Ninh Province Inland Waterways Port Authority, at the Ha Long International Passenger Port in Bai Chay Ward, this unit issued departure orders for more than 90 ships carrying more than 1,800 tourists to visit Ha Long Bay. Meanwhile, on December 30-31, 2024, more than 10,000 tourists visited Ha Long Bay each day.
At Tuan Chau International Port, Tuan Chau Ward, this morning, there were 53 departures with about 1,100 tourists, while from December 25 to December 31, 2024, there were 1,491 departures with more than 42,000 passengers, including more than 39,000 international passengers, an average of more than 6,000 passengers/day.
Representatives of several large hotels in Bai Chay also said that the number of guests was already very low and was even lower on January 1, New Year's Day.
One of the main reasons, according to representatives of some hotels, is that New Year's Day is only a one-day holiday, so people choose other options.
In 2024, Quang Ninh will welcome more than 19 million tourists, the highest ever, of which international visitors will reach 3.5 million. Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND 46,460 billion.
In 2025, Quang Ninh strives to welcome about 20 million tourists, with total revenue of about 55,000 billion VND.
