On January 5, Mr. Ha Sy Dong - Acting Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province confirmed that he had requested districts, towns and cities to proactively support poor households and ethnic minority households in difficult circumstances during the Lunar New Year 2025 and the 2025 crop year.
According to Mr. Ha Sy Dong, on December 6, 2024, Quang Tri province sent a document to districts, towns, and cities to deploy the review and synthesis of the number of households and people at risk of hunger during the Lunar New Year and the 2025 crop year.
After checking, all localities confirmed that there were no hungry households. Therefore, Quang Tri did not request rice distribution for hunger relief during Tet and the 2025 crop-reduction period.
However, in Quang Tri province, especially in mountainous districts and ethnic minority areas, there are many households in difficult circumstances. Therefore, in addition to using the State budget, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province has issued a letter calling on organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to support the poor. The locality has also conducted a review to see if households living in temporary houses are supported to build houses, and households in difficulty are supported with money or in kind, and essential necessities.
“Quang Tri province has just organized the program Connecting Hands of Love and has received support funds with a total value of about 170 billion VND and 30,000 Tet gifts for the poor. The funds and gifts mobilized will be reviewed and selected by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Tri province in coordination with sponsors and localities to hand out Tet gifts to other disadvantaged households before the Lunar New Year of At Ty - 2025” – said Mr. Ha Sy Dong.
In Quang Tri province, the mountainous district of Dakrong is home to a large number of ethnic minorities living in difficult circumstances. Mr. Thai Ngoc Chau, Chairman of the Dakrong District People's Committee, said that poor households in the area account for 32.7% of the district's population, but after checking, there was no shortage of food during Tet and between crops. Dakrong District has also made a list of disadvantaged households to support gifts for the upcoming Lunar New Year.
It is known that this is the second consecutive year that Quang Tri province has not proposed rice support for hunger relief during Tet and the crop gap from the Government.
