On October 8, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - Vice Principal of Nguyen Duc Canh Primary School, Tan Loi Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City confirmed that the unit is coordinating with Tan Loi Ward officials and the city's functional forces to clarify the source of the suspected pesticide odor.
"This stench has sent two teachers to the hospital. Fortunately, when they discovered the stench, many teachers banned students from leaving the classroom, even during recess. They also closed all the doors and turned on fans to make the air fresher. This is not the first time a stench similar to that of pesticides has spread into the school grounds," Ms. Hien added.
According to Mr. Vu Thanh Phuong - Vice Chairman of Tan Loi Ward People's Committee, in addition to Nguyen Duc Canh Primary School, Tan Loi Kindergarten also had to let students stay home due to a similar stench.
Authorities have yet to determine the source of the odor. In addition to the two schools, several other nearby locations have reported similar odors.
Police forces, environmental resources... have stepped in to verify and clarify to avoid affecting the health of local people.
Previously, at around 7am on October 8, a strong strange smell appeared at Nguyen Duc Canh Primary School. This stench caused a female clerk to vomit, a female librarian to faint, and she was taken to Buon Ma Thuot City General Hospital for emergency treatment.
To ensure the safety of the students, school leaders brought them into the classroom, closed the doors and turned on the fans.
Some students felt tired afterwards but it did not affect their health. The school immediately informed the People's Committee of Tan Loi Ward.
Upon receiving the information, the People's Committee of Tan Loi Ward established a team to make a record and inspect the area around the school. However, it is still unclear where the strange smell is coming from.
