In the afternoon of July 24, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning showed that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
Areas experiencing thunderstorms include Ben Thanh ward, Cau Ong Lanh, Binh Tien, Phu Dinh, Tam Long and Tan Nhut and Long Dien communes.
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop and expand, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above areas, and also spreading to Tan Vinh Loc, Binh Loi, An Thoi Dong, Chau Pha, Chau Duc, Dat Do, Ho Tram, Xuyen Moc, Bau Lam communes and Tan Tao, Phu My, Tan Thanh wards and many neighboring areas.
Common rainfall is from 5-20 mm, in some places over 30 mm. During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail, strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 and the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.
According to the meteorological agency, the current rainfall pattern is due to the Southwest monsoon operating with moderate intensity combined with a low pressure trough with an axis through the middle of the East Sea.
In the next 24-48 hours, the low pressure trough will connect with the tropical depression in the East of the Philippines. This system tends to strengthen and move into the Northeast East Sea area around July 25. The Southwest monsoon continues to maintain medium intensity, while the subtropical high pressure in the North is slowly encroaching westward.
From 3-10 days, the low pressure trough through the Central region tends to move northward, connecting with a tropical cyclone that is likely to enter the Northeast East Sea area. At the same time, the Southwest monsoon will strengthen.
Due to the impact of these weather patterns, the South is forecast to experience a widespread rain spell, peaking from July 26-29. Especially the western provinces are likely to experience rain from the morning, with temperatures dropping by about 1-2 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms may be accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, causing trees to fall, houses and infrastructure works to be damaged, and affecting agricultural production activities. Heavy rain also poses a risk of localized flooding, disrupting traffic and people's lives.
