On December 23, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Nghe An province said that so far, there are only 26 African swine fever outbreaks in the province that have not passed 21 days (10 outbreaks that have not passed 10 days, 6 outbreaks from 11-15 days and 10 outbreaks from 16-21 days) in 11 districts and Vinh City. The whole province has destroyed 3,350 pigs with a total weight of 192,822 kg.
During the period from December 20 to 23, 2024, no new outbreaks occurred in the province. There were 4 outbreaks that had passed 21 days in Do Luong, Dien Chau, Tuong Duong and Anh Son districts. Compared to October 2024, the number of outbreaks decreased by 78%.
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Nghe An province, the current complicated weather creates favorable conditions for pathogens to arise and spread; high pig prices cause farmers to tend to re-herd and increase herds; small-scale livestock farming makes it difficult to apply biosafety measures; many localities lack determination in directing, implementing disease prevention and vaccination, have not been able to manage livestock, cattle and poultry have not been vaccinated, self-vaccinated with unclear vaccine origins...
Therefore, the risk of African swine fever and other dangerous livestock diseases continuing to occur in the coming time is very high.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Nghe An province requests localities to synchronously, drastically and effectively implement measures to prevent and control animal diseases in accordance with the direction of the People's Committee of Nghe An province in Directive No. 45 dated November 15, 2024.
At the same time, proactively develop plans to respond to storms, epidemics and prevent hunger and cold for livestock in the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop; promptly direct and guide the restoration of livestock production after storms and epidemics to restore and develop the economy and stabilize people's lives.
Mr. Dang Van Minh - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Nghe An province said: "Implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, in the coming time, the working groups of the competent authorities will continue to strengthen inspections, coordinate with the districts to continue to urge and guide the synchronous implementation of solutions to prevent and control epidemics in livestock herds; focus resources to control and thoroughly handle complicated outbreaks, not to let them spread widely, especially vaccination work".
