On the morning of October 14, information from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police) said that the unit is urgently mobilizing forces and vehicles to urgently search for the three father and son suspected of jumping off Ben Thuy Bridge.
According to initial information, at around 9:50 p.m. on October 13, people traveling through Ben Thuy Bridge discovered a motorbike parked close to the bridge railing, next to the two pairs of students left behind. Suspecting something unusual, the people reported it to the authorities.
After receiving the report, Truong Vinh Ward Police sent forces to the scene, coordinating with the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team on the River to conduct a search at the foot of the bridge and the downstream area of Lam River.
Through verification, the man who left the motorbike was identified as V.V.D (born in 1993, residing in Hamlet 6, Kim Lien Commune, Nghe An Province). Mr. D is said to have carried his two young children - one born in 2020 and one born in 2021 - before leaving home that evening.
That same night, rescue and search work was urgently deployed. Dozens of officers, soldiers and specialized vehicles were mobilized to sweep along the Lam River area, expanding the search direction to the downstream bordering Ha Tinh. Some volunteer groups and local people also participated in the support.
However, the search encountered many difficulties due to rising river water, strong currents and bad weather.
As of the morning of October 14, the bodies or traces of the three father and son have not been discovered.
