In mid-September, Ms. Nguyen Ho Ly (in Tu Liem ward, Hanoi) wakes up about 1 hour earlier than usual.
The reason is that the rain situation has been prolonged in recent days, so she woke up earlier to update on the flood situation, to choose a suitable route to go to work.
At 6 am, when the alarm bell rang, the first thing the 28-year-old girl did was to open the 4th floor window and monitor the water level in the pond (Me Tri round pond) below the rented room she was living in.
Having lived here for many years, Ms. Ly learned that if water overflows the pond surface, it means that many heavy flooding points will appear in the inner city of Hanoi.

This morning, after a prolonged rain from the evening of September 16th to the morning of September 17th, the Me Tri round pond was full of water, and many roads around where Ms. Nguyen Ho Ly lived appeared flooded.
Because my work requires me to go to the office, I have no choice but to brave the rain and overcome some flooded spots to get to work," Ms. Ly said.
Ms. Ly's work starts from 8 am. On favorable weather days, around 7:30 am, she departs and only takes 20 minutes for the journey from home to work, with a distance of more than 6km. On rainy days like this morning, she left home at 6:45 am.
I have to go earlier to avoid congestion. I also have to find another route, further to limit flooding points. Like this morning, it took me almost 1 hour to get to work" - the female office worker said.

Recorded at Dong Me street this morning, the situation of localized flooding from Me Tri intersection to alley 45 Dong Me.
Some people tried to drive motorbikes and cars through the flooded section but stalled halfway. Some parents had to carry their children through the flooded section to go to school.
Local security and order protection forces are also present in the area, reminding people not to drive vehicles through flooded sections to ensure safety.

The flooding situation makes people confused to find alternative routes.
Ms. Le Thi Hoa (Phu Dien ward) came to deliver goods at Me Tri market this morning. However, when she arrived at the beginning of Dong Me street, localized flooding made her hesitate, not knowing which way to go to the delivery address.
Having overcome the flooded section in the My Dinh Stadium area, coming here, I will continue to encounter a heavy flooding point. I am not familiar with the roads in this area, so I don't know which route to move accordingly" - Ms. Hoa said.
In the end, she had to ask customers to go to the beginning of Dong Me street to receive the goods.
For objective reasons, customers also sympathize" - Ms. Hoa shared.

On the morning of September 17, Hanoi Drainage One Member Limited Liability Company had a document reporting on the drainage situation due to the impact of rain at 6 am on the same day.
The report clearly stated that through the company's inspection, many flooding points appeared in the area managed by the Company, such as: Duong Dinh Nghe - Pham Hung (behind Keangnam building); Le Duc Tho street area around My Dinh Stadium square; To Huu street; Trieu Khuc (section from alley 97 to Ao Dinh)...
