The meteorological agency warns of the risk of flash floods and landslides after heavy rain in some communes and wards of provinces and cities in the North, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.

Updated bulletin issued at 7:40 am on September 17 from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours (from 7:00 am on September 16 to 7:00 am on September 17), the provinces/cities of Son La, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An have had heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places such as: Quang Minh 99.8mm (Son La); Van Mai 152mm (Phu Tho); Co Phuc 117.6mm (Lao Cai); Thai Hoa 75.8mm (Tuyen Quang); Diem Mac 1 is 93mm (Thai Nguyen); Cam Pha 74.4mm (Quang Ninh); Trung Ha 266mm (Thanh Hoa); Nong Truong 15 is 167mm (Nghe An)...

The soil moisture model shows that some areas in the above provinces/cities have been near saturation (over 85%) or reached saturation status.

Warning in the next 6 hours, the above provinces/cities will continue to have rain with accumulated rainfall commonly in Thanh Hoa, Phu Tho, Son La and Lao Cai 20-30mm in some places over 90mm; in Nghe An, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh 10-20mm, in some places over 50mm.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, subsidence due to rain, floods or currents in Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa is level 2. The remaining six provinces and cities are level 1.

Flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, causing local traffic congestion, affecting the movement of vehicles; civil and economic works causing damage to production activities and socio-economic activities.

The meteorological agency recommends that functional agencies in localities pay attention to reviewing flow bottlenecks and key locations in the area to have preventive and response measures.
