For many years, every time heavy rain lasted, Le Thanh street and some neighboring areas in Cam Duong ward, Lao Cai province often fell into flooding.
At times, the water rises and recedes slowly, causing difficulties for travel, potentially causing traffic unsafety and directly affecting people's lives and business.
According to reporters' records, localized flooding mainly originates from the old, narrow drainage system, which no longer meets the increasing amount of rainwater.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien - a resident of Cam Duong ward - shared: "When it rains heavily, water overflows onto the road surface, and drainage is very slow, especially during the rainy and storm season in recent years. People hope the project will be built synchronously and completed soon to get rid of the anxiety every rainy season.
Faced with the above situation, the flood control project for Le Thanh street has been implemented with the goal of treating drainage in the rainy and flood season. At the same time, overcoming environmental pollution, gradually building the urban appearance of Cam Duong to be increasingly green, clean, beautiful, spacious and modern.
Through investigation, the project has a total investment of more than 14 billion VND, implemented in the period 2023-2025. The project is constructed by a joint venture of Duc Manh General Construction Co., Ltd. and Tay Bac Co., Ltd.
On January 27, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Huy Hoa - Deputy Director of Duc Manh General Construction Co., Ltd. - said that up to this point, the project has completed over 90% of the workload. In which, the asphalt paving item has reached about 30% of the road length.
The construction unit is focusing maximum manpower and machinery to speed up progress. From now until before the Lunar New Year, we will complete the construction and installation of culverts and asphalt paving for the remaining sections, ensuring the handover of the project on schedule for use," Mr. Hoa said.
Representatives of the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Cam Duong - Hop Thanh area said that the main items include renovating and upgrading the rainwater drainage system, building box culverts, water intake sewers and completing the road surface, in order to ensure long-term drainage capacity.
The project not only aims to solve immediate flooding but also aims to embellish the city and improve the living environment for people. When completed, Le Thanh road will ensure synchronous technical infrastructure criteria, in line with the local urban development orientation," the project management board representative informed.
People in Cam Duong ward expressed their hope that when the project is completed, the prolonged flooding situation for many years will be completely resolved.
