The park is shabby, people are worried while traveling
Expected to be a landscape highlight for the western area of Hanoi and has been open to the public since 2019, Mai Dich Lake Park is now appearing with a sad appearance. In reality, after more than 5 years of exploitation, a series of items have seriously degraded. The peeling and uneven paving roads create "traps" for pedestrians, overgrown with weeds all over the path, garbage is scattered everywhere, even dead fish floating on the lake surface give off a foul smell but cannot be cleaned up in time.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Viet (Tu Liem ward), a resident who regularly exercises here, was upset because of the constant flooding. According to Mr. Viet, this area is originally low-lying, the drainage system is not operating effectively, so if it rains, the water will not drain in time.
"The lake water rose high and overflowed the entire shore, flooding all the roads, making it impossible for people to move. The environment is very dirty, the lighting is broken and dark," Mr. Viet shared.

Sharing the same disappointment, Ms. Dang Kim Hoa (Phu Dien ward) said that although she lives near the park, she has no other choice.
"The quality of the park is not good. Just a moderate rain will cause the entire walking path along the lake to be flooded, forcing people to walk on the sidewalk up front, which is very inconvenient," Ms. Hoa said in dismay.
Many young people like Ms. Cao Thi Van Anh (Dinh Cong ward) who came to experience it also expressed regret. Although the lake creates a breathtaking feeling, the scenery around it with wild grass growing on the road, broken bricks and stones has lost the urban beauty. Public images such as open-air manhole covers and fallen trees after the storm have not been thoroughly treated, further worrying local people and authorities about the safety of this project.
Not accepting works that do not meet legal standards
Faced with the above deterioration, in mid-October 2025, Sai Dong Urban Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (investor) sent a document to the City People's Committee. This enterprise said it is facing difficulties in maintenance costs after many years of spending money and being affected by Typhoon Yagi. Therefore, the investor recommends handing over the current status of the items that have been constructed in Phase 1 to the state management unit, while continuing to implement the arising items in parallel.
However, the People's Committee of Phu Dien Ward (the unit expected to receive the area within the ward's administrative boundaries) issued a document on November 18 affirming that it will only receive the handover when all items have been completed and accepted in accordance with the provisions of the Construction Law and Decree 06/2021/ND-CP of the Government.

The leader of Phu Dien ward pointed out that the project is currently not eligible for handover due to many technical errors and has not been fully accepted. Receiving a damaged project, paralyzed drainage system, and ineffective lighting will create a great burden on the local budget for repair and maintenance work in the future.
Therefore, the Ward People's Committee requires investors to be responsible for thoroughly overcoming the shortcomings: re-paving broken sidewalks, unblocking the drainage system to end the "flooding every time it rains", replacing broken light bulbs and adding manhole covers to ensure the safety of people's lives. The locality's viewpoint is not to accept the handover according to the "current" of shortcomings proposed by the investor. While waiting for legal procedures to be completed, the investor must still be responsible for maintaining environmental sanitation and pruning trees so that people have a safe living space.
