On October 27, the People's Committee of Hau Thanh commune said that a section of the dike protecting the rice area in the commune suddenly broke on October 26. It is estimated that about 20 hectares of rice of 5 households (including the broken dike section) were damaged by water and nearly 100 hectares of rice were directly affected.
Although local people have proactively reinforced the dykes in recent days to protect the young rice area, due to high water pressure, the dyke section at Co My canal, in Hoa Tan hamlet, Hau Thanh commune, has broken about 5 meters, then spread to 8 meters.
Immediately after the incident, the local government coordinated with militia and people to urgently mobilize vehicles and materials to reinforce the broken dike section, and urgently pumped water to prevent flooding for the remaining rice fields.
Up to now, the dike situation has been controlled, the authorities are still closely monitoring the water level and proactively responding to new developments.
For other dykes in the area, the leaders of Hau Thanh commune have directed hamlets to increase patrols, especially in sections with signs of weak landslides, to promptly handle when floodwaters continue to rise.
