Water overflows 3 bridges in Hanoi, people wade through the water, vehicles cannot pass

Hanoi - The rising water level of the Day River caused flooding of 3 weak bridges and temporary bridges connecting Hung Dao and An Khanh communes, affecting people's travel.

On August 25, recorded at Dai Thanh bridge (weak bridge, connecting Hung Dao and An Khanh communes, Hanoi), the Day River water rose, overflowing the bridge, causing traffic to be cut off.

At both ends of the bridge, functional forces set up checkpoints, vehicles are not allowed to pass through the bridge.

And people had to take off their shoes, pants rolled up high, wading through a section of water that was almost knee-deep.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hop (59 years old, Hung Dao commune) could not hide her worry when talking about her daily travel journey.

If it rains heavily for a long time, the bridge will flood again. Looking at the rising water overflowing the degraded bridge, everyone passing by is terrified. There were times when I went to work or had to cross the river, I had to park my car on this side of the bank and wade through the water to receive things, then wade back, which was extremely difficult" - Ms. Hop said.

Not only causing difficulties for local people's travel, many delivery drivers are also struggling to find ways to handle it when vehicles are not allowed to circulate through Dai Thanh bridge.

Mr. Do Thanh Long, receiving goods from Tran Phu street (Ha Dong) to deliver to customers in Hung Dao commune, said that the shortest way for him to access the delivery address is through Dai Thanh bridge. However, this bridge is currently closed to traffic, and some nearby bridges are also flooded, causing him confusion.

Unable to go around (through Mai Linh bridge or Song Day bridge - Thang Long Avenue) because the distance is too far, Mr. Long proactively contacted customers to find a way to deliver and receive goods.

Accordingly, the receiving party will move to the other side of Dai Thanh bridge (Hung Dao commune) to wait to receive the goods. Mr. Long had to take off his sandals, roll up his pants to his knees and wade through the flooded water to deliver the goods to customers.

Going through the flooded section is also quite dangerous because it is not clear if there are any obstacles below, so I have to search every step very carefully," Mr. Long shared.

According to people's reflections, the demand for trade, travel, study and work of people between the two banks of the Day River is very large.

The deterioration of the bridge, which is often deeply flooded every time it rains and floods, not only causes economic damage but also poses a potential risk of unsafety for people.

The biggest wish of the people at this time is for all levels of government and functional agencies to soon pay attention and invest in building a new solid bridge, or renovate and upgrade the old bridge so that people no longer have to suffer every time the rainy and storm season comes" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Hop said.

In addition to Dai Thanh bridge, along the Day River in Hung Dao and An Khanh communes, bridge 72 (temporary bridge) and Tan Phu bridge (temporary bridge) were also overflowed by Day River water.

Faced with the complicated developments of the weather, to ensure absolute safety for the lives and property of people and vehicles participating in traffic, on August 23, Hung Dao Commune People's Committee issued a notice to temporarily suspend traffic completely for all vehicles and people passing through bridge 72, Dai Thanh bridge and Tan Phu bridge areas.

Time from 7:00 PM on August 23rd until further notice.

At this time, vehicles passing through Hung Dao and An Khanh communes can choose to move through Mai Linh bridge or Song Day bridge (Thang Long Highway).
