The An Phu Intersection Project (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) is a key traffic project, expected to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City and connect key economic areas. After more than 2 years of construction, the items of the An Phu Intersection have gradually taken shape. Currently, the project has completed more than 60% of the total work volume.
Construction started in December 2022 with a total investment of more than VND 3,400 billion, An Phu intersection is built on a three-storey scale, including six bridges, two underpasses and connecting roads... This is a project that is considered to have the most modern infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City. Previously, the project set a target of completion by April 30, 2025, however, the implementation process was stuck with land clearance and difficulties in both construction and traffic organization, so it had to be extended until the end of 2025 to complete.
According to records, Ba Dat bridge and Giong Ong To bridge are the first two completed projects but have not yet opened to traffic due to waiting for connection with other projects.
The Ba Dat bridge deck on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway was completed with asphalt paving in February 2025. The Ba Dat bridge has a construction value of nearly 185 billion VND, including three units, built between two existing bridges with a total length of about 474 m.
Meanwhile, the Giong Ong To 2 bridge has been completed and is awaiting road marking. The Giong Ong To 2 bridge connects Mai Chi Tho Street with Dong Van Cong Street, with a construction value of nearly 380 billion VND, consisting of two units located between two existing bridges on the same route.
Besides, the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection underpass has completed some open tunnel sections and is continuing to construct the remaining tunnel sections.
Five flyover branches at the construction site are also being deployed simultaneously, including: Bridge N3 and N4 at the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection; Bridge N2 turns right from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Mai Chi Tho; Bridge N1.1 and N1.3 turns left from Mai Chi Tho to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.
According to the representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), the project is currently being implemented in 3 shifts, 4 teams with about 500 - 600 workers and engineers working day and night. Up to now, the project has completed most of the important items such as Ba Dat bridge, Giong Ong To 2 bridge... Other items are being strived to be completed in 2025.
"As for the 22,000 m2 land area on Luong Dinh Cua Street, belonging to the An Phu urban development project (88.03 ha), An Phu Ward, the time for handing over the site has not yet been determined. This area is related to the N1.2 overpass branch from Luong Dinh Cua to the Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, so the exact completion time cannot be determined. However, contractors are focusing on accelerating the progress, working in a rolling manner, organizing traffic while constructing," said a representative of the Traffic Department.
During the project implementation, the An Phu intersection area always experienced traffic congestion, making people even more eager for the project to be completed soon.
