On July 16, the Vietnam Peace Trees Project (PeaceTrees VietNam) Quang Tri said that the Mobile Mine Disposal Team EOD1 had just handled safely grenades and bullets discovered in people's gardens.
Previously, from June 30, Mr. Tran Van Phu's family (residing in block 4, Khe Sanh commune, Quang Tri province) while digging a hole to plant trees in their home garden discovered many objects suspected of being bombs, mines, and ammunition left over from the war.
Mr. Phu called the hotline of the Quang Tri Provincial Mine Action Center (QTMAC) to inform and request support.
Upon receiving the news, the Mobile Bomb and Mine Disposal Team EOD1 of the PeaceTrees VietNam Quang Tri Project immediately arrived at the scene. After collecting information from people, functional forces proceeded to zone to ensure safety in the surrounding area, and at the same time deployed thorough inspections.
The review results showed that a total of 361 unexploded 7.62mm rounds and 8 M33 grenades had their detonators broken.
According to professional assessments, these explosives are still lethal but are qualified for safe transportation. All ammunition and grenades have been collected and relocated to storage by the Mobile Bomb and Mine Disposal Team EOD1 for processing and destruction according to technical procedures.
According to the Vietnam Peace Tree, remaining bombs and explosives continue to be a potential threat not only in deserted areas but also in places where people are living and producing daily. Raising community awareness, maintaining a network of reporting and timely handling is an important factor in protecting people's lives.
