At the meeting, leaders of Quang Tri province thanked the US Government for actively supporting programs to overcome the consequences of war, especially bomb and mine clearance through projects funded by the US Government.
The Vice Chairman of the Hoang Nam Provincial People's Committee expressed his hope that the US side would continue to support the promotion of the search for missing soldiers in Vietnam, and at the same time share more information and locations for Vietnam to search for missing soldiers.
Mr. Hoang Nam also suggested that the Ambassador continue to connect with the US State Department to maintain funding sources for bomb and mine clearance activities in Quang Tri, helping the province aim to become the first locality in the country to be safe from bomb and mines by 2035.
Ambassador Marc E. Knapper affirmed that on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam -US diplomatic relations, promoting activities to overcome war consequences is an important symbol for bilateral relations. He affirmed that he would continue to promote financial support from the US government to accompany Vietnam, including Quang Tri, on the journey to heal the consequences of war, based on the principle of honesty with the past and towards the future prosperity.
Earlier, on the same morning, Ambassador Marc E. Knapper witnessed the detonation of cluster bombs (dangerous explosives left over from the war) and was present at the scene to search for missing US soldiers during the war in Quang Tri province.
