On May 30, information from the Team for searching and repatriating martyrs' remains of Division 968 (Military Region 4) said that after a period of organizing information gathering and surveying the area, the unit found a martyr's remain in the Chom Chom hill area (belonging to Ban Chua village, Hieu Giang commune, Quang Tri province) on May 28.
The martyr's remains were found at a depth of about 1.5m underground. Through actual inspection, the martyr's bones have been decomposed over time, leaving only 15 teeth. The artifacts found included: 1 stele used for burial, 1 belt, 1 comb and 13 buttons of the army shirt.
According to initial survey information, the Chom Chom hill area used to be the surgical station and old cemetery of Regiment 64, Division 320. Specialized agencies believe that the martyr just found may belong to the ranks of Regiment 64, Division 320 and died around 1968.
Currently, the martyrs' remains are being managed by the 968th Division Repatriation Team, organizing incense offerings and solemn care at the Tan Quang village hall (Hieu Giang commune, Quang Tri province).
To not miss out on the martyrs, Division 968 directed the repatriation force to continue to stick to the area, expand the search scope around the area. At the same time, the unit is actively coordinating with functional agencies to inspect, verify, and compare information sources about the area and units that have fought here to serve the work of identifying martyrs in accordance with regulations.
It is known that, implementing the "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains", to date, the Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains of Division 968 has made efforts to search for and exhume a total of 7 martyrs' remains in the area.
