On the morning of August 18, information from the Ministry of Construction said that the Ministry had just issued a document requesting the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) and Vietnam Airlines Corporation - JSC (Vietnam Airlines) to urgently implement tasks related to the VN34 flight incident, which occurred on August 15 at Munich International Airport, Federal Republic of Germany.
Previously, the Ministry of Construction received Report No. 4711/BC-CHK dated August 17, 2026 of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on the incident related to Vietnam Airlines' VN-A867 aircraft.
To ensure absolute aviation safety and prevent similar incidents, the Ministry of Construction requests the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to immediately establish an official communication channel and coordinate with authorities to investigate incidents and aircraft accidents of the Federal Republic of Germany and related agencies.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam proactively grasps information, participates in investigation work according to regulations; and at the same time strengthens safety supervision of aviation staff training, operation and maintenance of aircraft of Vietnamese airlines.
The Ministry of Construction also requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to provide objective, complete and timely information about the incident, to avoid the appearance of false rumors causing public confusion.
After having the investigation results from the authorities investigating the incident and aircraft accident of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam must promptly report the results and measures to overcome and prevent the incident.
For Vietnam Airlines, the Ministry of Construction requests the airline to closely coordinate with the Authorities to investigate the incident and accident of the German aircraft, the aircraft manufacturer and the engine manufacturer to serve the investigation process and clarify the cause of the incident.
Vietnam Airlines must also review the entire process of training aviation staff, operating and maintaining aircraft to promptly detect and overcome risks that may affect flight safety.
In addition, the airline is required to strictly fulfill the obligations of the carrier to passengers affected by the incident.
The Ministry of Construction requests the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and Vietnam Airlines to urgently implement the above tasks, and fully report the implementation results according to regulations.
Reports from Vietnam Airlines Corporation and initial information collected show that flight VN34 with the planned route Munich International Airport (Germany) - Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) took off at 11:57 UTC (13:57 local time, 18:57 Vietnam time).
After takeoff, a warning appeared related to the aircraft hitting its tail on the runway and a tire pressure warning. The flight crew informed the air traffic controller and decided to return to Munich International Airport for technical inspection.
At the same time, coordinating with air traffic controllers and ground staff, it was decided to take all passengers off the plane by stairs and move them to the terminal safely.
The aircraft was then received by ground units and brought to the parking lot for inspection, serving the assessment and investigation after the incident. All 271 passengers and 16 crew members were safe after the incident, no one was injured.
