On January 22, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport sent a document to the Ho Chi Minh City Police and vehicle inspection facilities to coordinate propaganda and raise vigilance against fraudulent acts related to vehicle inspection.
According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, recently there have been a number of individuals impersonating officers of the Vietnam Register, the Department of Transport, and employees of registration facilities, calling vehicle owners with the following content:
- Notice of expired vehicle inspection requiring registration renewal.
- The Vietnam Register has changed the inspection stamp and Inspection Certificate, and vehicle owners are requested to update the new stamp and Inspection Certificate.
- The vehicle owner's information previously declared at the Inspection Center is incorrect. It is necessary to provide personal information to update the profile without having to go to the Inspection Center.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport affirms that, based on current legal regulations, all administrative procedures related to vehicle registration must be carried out at authorized registration facilities. All revenues from services, fees, and charges must also have valid invoices and documents according to regulations.
The authorities did not make any phone calls to people or businesses regarding vehicle registration. The above impersonators have committed fraud, violated the law and need to be dealt with according to regulations.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport also recommends that vehicle owners absolutely do not provide personal information over the phone, do not access links or scan QR codes of unknown origin.
If there are any questions related to vehicle registration, people should go directly to the registration facilities or contact the competent authorities to verify the information.
In addition, if people discover or become victims of fraud, they need to quickly report the incident to the police for timely handling.
To raise public awareness, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport recommends that vehicle inspection agencies warn vehicle owners about calls and text messages requesting money transfers from unknown phone numbers, and advise them not to make money transfers and not to access fake links from the Vietnam Register.
Ho Chi Minh City Police directed functional units in the area, including districts and Thu Duc City, to promptly grasp information reflected by people and vehicle owners, and deploy measures to prevent and handle violations.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport recommends that vehicle owners re-check their vehicle information and contact the inspection facilities or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport directly to verify any requests related to inspection, to avoid being scammed by bad guys.
