On the afternoon of January 22, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Hoang Van Luc - Chairman of the Thieu Hoa District Labor Federation said that on the same morning, as soon as hundreds of workers of Van Ha Garment Company Limited (in Van Ha town, Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province) stopped working collectively to demand wages and bonuses, the District Labor Federation coordinated with relevant agencies to go to Van Ha Garment Company Limited to record the workers' petitions, then worked with the company's representatives.
At the meeting, the company gave many reasons for the difficulties leading to late December salary and no 13th month bonus.
At the end of the meeting, the company's leaders decided to pay December 2024 salary, and the company will try to arrange the 13th month bonus.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuan - Head of the Policy and Law Department of Thanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation confirmed the above information and added that Van Ha Garment Company Limited is a unit that has been in debt to social insurance for a long time. After today's meeting, the problem of social insurance debt has not yet been resolved.
Regarding the issue of social insurance debt, Mr. Hoang Van Luc - Chairman of the Labor Federation of Thieu Hoa district said that the authorities of Thieu Hoa district and Thanh Hoa province will take strong action to ensure the rights of workers.
After the intervention of the Thieu Hoa District Labor Federation and authorities, many workers have left and it is expected that tomorrow morning (January 23), workers will return to work.
As Lao Dong reported, on the morning of January 22, due to not having received some benefits, hundreds of workers at Van Ha Garment Company Ltd. stopped working collectively to request the company to resolve the issue.
The workers said they stopped working because the company had not paid their December salary and 13th month bonus. The workers also requested to resolve the issue of workers owing social insurance payments for the past 15 months, which prevented them from receiving maternity benefits as prescribed.
“Yesterday and today, about 200 to 300 workers stopped working and stood in front of the company gate. We are very upset, Tet is coming soon but the company still owes us bonuses. I gave birth to my child nearly 14 months ago, but I still haven’t received my maternity pay,” said Nguyen Thi Nga (worker at workshop 1, Van Ha Garment Company Ltd).
Immediately after the incident, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor directed the Thieu Hoa District Federation of Labor to grasp the situation and proactively coordinate with relevant units to work with the company to protect the legitimate rights and interests of union members, workers, civil servants and employees.
