On September 1, information from the People's Committee of Lang Son province said that the province has announced an emergency situation for natural disasters in Na Lung hamlet, Ban So village, Tri Le commune, after this area continuously experienced cracks, subsidence and land movement.
The above phenomenon appeared after heavy rains, especially after Typhoon Yagi in 2024. Many cracks have formed on the hillside with a total length of about 150 m. Below is the residence of 13 households, including 72 people.
In 2025, some locations subsided more than one meter deep, cracks 30-40 cm wide. Soil from the hillside slid down close to the house wall, some households were affected by the foundation of the water tank and toilet.
This year, the cracks continue to expand, some locations have subsided more than 1.2 m deep.
Soil and rocks have moved down to residential areas, pushing into the walls, house foundations, water tanks and auxiliary works. Water has also appeared from the hillside, flowing down to the residential area during and after heavy rains.
Among the 13 households in dangerous areas, 4 households have proactively built houses elsewhere. The remaining 9 households still live in areas at risk of landslides.
The government assesses that if the land mass continues to move on a large scale, houses, assets and people's lives will be threatened.
Tri Le Commune People's Committee is requested to monitor cracks, subsidence locations and weather developments; warn people to evacuate when prolonged heavy rain or abnormal signs appear on the hillside.
The locality must prepare forces, vehicles and evacuation places, and at the same time zone dangerous areas, prohibit digging and shoveling soil at the foot of the hill and activities that may destabilize the hillside.
In the long term, Lang Son will relocate housing for households in high-risk areas.
The project to arrange and stabilize population has a total estimated cost of 5 billion VND, from the budget for disaster recovery and disaster prevention and control in 2026.
