Hai Phong's widest cable-stayed bridge
The project to invest in the construction of Nguyen Trai bridge and urban embellishment in the surrounding area is a key project of the city in 2024, belonging to group A, special-class traffic works with a total investment of more than 6, 235 billion VND.
The project has a construction scale of Nguyen Trai bridge including 4 lanes for motorized vehicles, designed as a cable-stayed bridge, the bridge section is nearly 1,500 m long, especially the middle span is 300 m wide, the widest compared to bridges in Hai Phong. 2 towers 111 m high form 2 sails reaching out to sea, showing Hai Phong city's aspiration to "reach out to the big sea". Nguyen Trai bridge after completion will be the 6th bridge of the city across the Cam River, after Binh bridge, Kien bridge, Hoang Van Thu bridge, Bach Dang bridge and May Chai bridge.
The package for building the main cable-stayed bridge has a contract value of VND 2,367 billion, signed from January 15, 2025, expected to be completed in December 2027. According to the contractor representative, by April 2, the main bridge section has completed the construction of bored piles (accumulated 88/88 piles), 2 pillars T10 and T13, tower base T11. Regarding steel tower processing, units have completed the K1-K3 and GS01-GS05, GM01-GM03 beams. At the same time, 2 construction fronts are being deployed: front 1 is constructing block K0 at pillar T11; front 2 is constructing tower body T12. The completed volume value has reached nearly 32% of the contract value.
Strive to complete September 2027
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai Tinh, technical officer of the Management Board of package 14 (building the main cable-stayed bridge) said that currently more than 60 workers are being arranged to work in 2 shifts day and night to construct pier T11; pier T12 also mobilized 50 people, day and night, to ensure project progress.
Regarding imported materials, units imported nearly 5,000 tons of grade 1 tower steel, 273 tons of grade 2 tower steel and 240 sets of cable anchors, 200 tons of cable cables. Contractors are focusing manpower and resources, striving to close the bridge in May 2027 and complete it in September 2027.
In addition to the cable-stayed main bridge construction package, contractors are also focusing on building approach bridges, approach roads and intersections; building Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong underpass. The total completed volume of 3 packages is 1,889.23/4,253 billion VND (about 44.44%).
Previously, at the inspection of the Nguyen Trai bridge project, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the main bridge and cable-stayed bridge construction package to be shortened by 6 months; the approach bridge, approach road and intersection construction package to be shortened by 11 months compared to the contract; striving to complete and put into operation during the National Day 2/9 2027.
